The Topic: The National Security Innovation Network. NSIN is an unrivaled problem-solving network in the U.S. Department of Defense that adapts to the emerging needs of those who serve in the defense of our national security. NSIN is dedicated to the work of bringing together defense, academic and entrepreneurial innovators to solve national security problems in new ways.

Guest Speaker: Dr. Gregory Bernard, Acting Director, National Security Innovation Network, U.S. Department of Defense.  

Bio: Dr. Bernard joined NSIN in Sep 2019 where he led a team of 5 program managers in developing and delivering programs designed to foster innovative problem solving through collision events among DoD customers and non-traditional national security problem solvers. Collaboration Programs include Hackathons, a University course called Hacking For Defense (H4D), a crowdsourcing platform called Source, and an intensive 3-day innovative problem-solving workshop called Bootcamp. In June of this year, Dr Bernard became the Acting Director with a mission to change the way the Department of Defense solves problems.  Prior to joining NSIN, Dr. Bernard held several key positions with the Department of Homeland security including: Acting Chief, Strategic Analysis Branch, National Risk Management Center and then as the Center’s Acting Innovation Officer; Deputy Assistant Director, Global Nuclear Detection Architecture Analysis Division; Branch Chief and then Principal Deputy Director of the Domestic Nuclear Detection Office. Dr. Bernard began his career as a consultant with Booz Allen Hamilton.
