The Topic of Discussion: The Defense Innovation Unit will provide an update of the National Security Innovation Capital (NSIC) program that addresses the shortfall of trusted funding from private venture capital sources for the development of new hardware technologies that have both commercial and national security applications.

Speaker BIO:

LTC Andrea Castillon is currently assigned to the Defense Innovation Unit as the Austin City Lead and works within the Human Systems Portfolio for the Defense Engagement Team.

A native of Green River, WY, LTC Andrea Castillon received her commission as a Medical Service Corps Officer in 2001. Following graduation, she served as a Lieutenant with the 1022nd Medical Company (Air Ambulance) and deployed with the 1022nd in support of Operation Nobel Eagle and Kuwait in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Upon redeployment, Andrea served in the Office of the Chief Surgeon at National Guard Bureau, Arlington, Virginia, as Special Staff.

LTC Castillon continued her service at National Guard Bureau and then was selected as a Congressional Budget Liaison for the Office of Assistant Secretary of the Army Financial Management and Comptroller at Headquarters Department of the Army. After completing her assignment as a Legislative Liaison, LTC Castillon joined the 5th Battalion, 159th Aviation Regiment as an Executive Officer. At the same time, it was deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Upon return from deployment, LTC Castillon served as a staff officer at United States Transportation Command, United States Army Forces Command, and United States Army Medical Command. LTC Castillon was selected to command the Warrior Transition Battalion at Brooke Army Medical Center and transitioned into a Soldier Recovery Unit. 

LTC Castillon holds an Undergraduate Degree in Business Management from the University of Wyoming and a Master’s Degree from Georgetown University. Andrea recently attended the United States Naval War College in Newport, RI, where she graduated with distinction.

Learn about Federal technology requirements and business opportunities. Network virtually over a cup of coffee and connect with like-minded people. Learn how your innovation and technology can be applied to solve national security problems.

Why Participate: If you are tired of being lectured to and you want to voice your ideas. If you would like a chance to share your thoughts and hear what others have to say. If you are interested in Innovation, Technology, Leadership, and contracting to solve national security problems, this virtual networking event is for you. Talk, listen, ask questions, it’s your choice, but DEFTECH wants to hear from you.

Who: Industry, academia, government, and anybody that wants to discuss Innovation, Technology, Opportunities, and the Leadership attributes required to pull it all together.

Format: To get us started, DEFTECH will briefly offer a relevant Technology Leadership topic and open it up for discussion, but the participants will drive the conversations. After the open forum, DEFTECH will briefly review current opportunities, trends, and upcoming events.

When: Join us every Friday from 0900-1000 Eastern Time.

Where: Virtual Microsoft Teams Meeting, or dial in from your phone.

How: Join on your computer, tablet, browser through the Microsoft Teams application, or call in. However you join the discussion, we want to hear from you!
