We’re excited about co-hosting the 2019 Forum for SBIR/STTR Transition (FST) with the University of Massachusetts Research Institute. Adopting innovative technology is a tradition in the New England area as far back as when companies harnessed river power to establish factories and businesses in what we today call the “Industrial Revolution.” And Innovation still abounds here. Some of America’s great academic intuitions, an important military presence, and cutting-edge research centers are in this northeast technology corridor. As a result, a number of small and large tech companies have blossomed, including some of America’s leading defense contractors. So, come to the show—and see tomorrow’s Technology, today, as more than 100 SBIR companies exhibit and present their technologies.
Just as the early innovators in New England may not have fully grasped the wide-ranging impact of their technology, there are stories in this issue that demonstrate the positive, perhaps unanticipated, and often inspirational results of SBIR efforts.

Take a look at Propel, Inc., a company that has leveraged its initial Navy SBIR investment to develop stitchless technology that has resulted in Phase III contracts with the Navy and other services.
There’s also an article about the SBIR team at PEO (IWS) and how they look for ways to apply available funding to existing, often unrelated, and even expired SBIR contracts to help meet requirements.
