Description

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) is issuing an Artificial Intelligence Exploration (AIE) Opportunity inviting submissions of innovative basic research concepts in the technical domain of Reversible Computing. This AIE Opportunity is issued under the Program Announcement for AIE, DARPA-PA-20-02. All awards will be made in the form of an Other Transaction (OT) for prototype project. The total award value for the combined Phase 1 base and Phase 2 option is limited to $1,000,000. This total award value includes Government funding and performer cost share, if required or if proposed.

The primary objectives of the Reversible/Quantum Machine Learning and Simulation (RQMLS) AIE opportunity are (1) to explore the fundamental limits of reversible quantum annealers; (2) to quantitatively predict the computational utility of these systems for machine learning tasks in simulation, many-body physics, classification, optimization, and other fields; and (3) to design experimental tests for these predictions that can be carried out on newly fabricated small-scale reversible quantum annealers. All teams are required to address all primary objectives.
