Description

The National Security Innovation Network is a United States Department of Defense program office under the Defense Innovation Unit that seeks to create new communities of innovators to solve national security problems. They are dedicated to the work of bringing together defense, academic and entrepreneurial innovators to solve national security problems in new ways.

Founded in 2013, Major League Hacking (MLH) is the global community for student developers. We support 100,000+ student developers, designers, and engineers each year through thousands of on-campus events like workshops, hackathons, and career fests. MLH has been a community first, mission driven organization from the beginning.

The MLH Fellowship’s Tour of Duty (within the Deployment Track) was borne out of The Phoenix Project, an initiative built after students were left jobless during economic strife caused by the pandemic. After a successful summer, The Phoenix Project was awarded the right to build more products for the Department of Defense and partnered with Major League Hacking in pursuit of bringing together more builders.

The Department of Defense's National Security Innovation Network, in partnership with Major League Hacking and Duke's Phoenix Project, is launching a new tech externship enabling builders in your network to solve tech challenges for the military.

The Tour of Duty is a fully remote, paid externship where builders can serve their country over 90 days in 2020. We are keen to recruit a wide variety of U.S. citizens with varied skills (coding, prototyping, product management, design).

We'd like to reach beyond full-time students so those taking gap years, or with careers disrupted by COVID, alumni, etc would be ideal candidates. We are pleased to offer stipends to fellows selected to the program for up to $3,000. All fellows must be U.S. citizens.

If you miss the fall cohort you will be considered for the spring/summer cohort.

Applications for the fall cohort close in 5 days. Applicants may also indicate their interest in externships for the spring and summer.  https://www.tourofduty.io/fellowship
