The Topic of Discussion: This week, John Hardin, Ph.D., will discuss the results of the study by the Defense Innovation Task Force on how to help innovators win more SBIRS and rapid prototyping opportunities.

Guest Speaker BIO: John Hardin, Ph.D., is the Executive Director of the Office of Science, Technology & Innovation in the N.C. Department of Commerce, a position he’s served since 2009. He conducts strategic planning and makes recommendations for technology-based economic development, implements technology-related economic development policy and resource allocations. He supervises the staff of N.C. Board of Science, Technology & Innovation, directs and oversees the administration of grant programs to support technology development and commercialization, and leads strategic initiatives.

From 1998 to 2003, John served as Assistant Vice President for Research and Sponsored Programs in the UNC General Administration. A native of Tulsa, Okla., John holds M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in political science from UNC-Chapel Hill, a B.A. in economics from Baylor University, and a certificate of completion for the Leadership Decision Making program, Harvard University, John F. Kennedy School of Government.

It comprises two programs: the SBIR/STTR Phase I Matching Funds Program and the North Carolina SBIR/STTR Phase I Incentive Funds Program.
