DoD Communities Of Interest: Ground and Sea Platforms

Subject : Electronic Search and Rescue (eSAR) Watercraft

Due Date: 1 Oct 2021

Government Organization: Defense Innovation Unit DIU

Description :

The Department of Defense (DoD) is seeking electric-powered, small watercraft capable of performing a range of maritime missions—such as search and rescue and maritime reconnaissance operations—from naval vessels and along coast lines. This effort will begin to deliver alternative energy solutions to naval platforms with the intent to reduce reliance on fossil fuel products and test the capability, safety, and reliability of underutilized energy storage devices in the maritime domain. The eSAR watercraft solution should enhance the DoD’s maritime operational capabilities through cross-platform energy sharing, lower maintenance requirements, increased craft and operator survivability (e.g. via lower acoustic and thermal signatures), and potential, future expanded mission use cases that may include remote operation.
